Grade 11-12 Faith Formation

All youth (no matter the school they attend) and their friends are invited to learn and serve through our upper high school program!

Requirement for all adult volunteers:  Archdiocesan Fingerprinting and Child Protection Video.

 

 

      The Christian Service and Learning Award:

     An award from the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry, issued at St. Patrick Church this fall and spring.

     Award description: A pin, a certificate listing all service and learning events, and recognition at a Youth Mass.

     Award requirements:

     *Two unpaid acts of ministry or service for or through the St. Patrick community

     *Two learning experiences, at least one that includes a dinner talk.

     *Informal sharing at a dinner talk about recent service and learning and it’s relationship to Christianity.


Award Recognition Masses:  11:30 Mass on November 18 and May 4.  Parents of youth who earn this award will be notified several days before the mass. 

PLEASE NOTE:  Because there is no registration fee for grades 10-12, all upper high school events must be self-paid.  Most service events will not require money, however.   ALSO NOTE:  An RSVP is required for all learning events and some service events.  Simply call Mrs. Mengos’ voicemail (335-2833 ex. 106) by midnight the day before an event.  

Service and Ministry :  Youth are encouraged to continue their ministries from their Confirmation preparation or to switch to a new ministry.  Individual service opportunities will also be posted via Sign-Up Sheets on the internet and bulletin notices.

Learning Events:  Dinner Talks (RSVP Required)$6 to cover the carry-in food and a speaker fee. All dinner talks are in the Undercroft from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Once youth arrive (by 6:15 at the latest) youth  need to stay until the end of the program.

·   Dinner talk topics are meant for discussion and are chosen by the Youth Council.  All views will be respected.  A church           understanding of these topics will be provided by a speaker or by good materials.  A bit of church history and a closing prayer will also be included.

·   Thursday:  September  20: Cohabitation

·   Monday, October 15:  Mission Speaker

·   Tuesday, November 13: Personal Self-Defense and Working for Peace

·   Wednesday, January 9:  Movie night—movie TBA

·   Sunday and Monday Feb. 17-18—BERGAMO RETREAT FOR UPPER HIGH SCHOOL—THE WORLD’S GREATEST!—This                outstanding event combining youth from all around Dayton counts as two dinner talks!

·   Thursday, March 13:  Natural Family Planning

·   Wednesday, April 16—College Student Presentation.    

In order to pay for the Bergamo retreat, youth and parents are encouraged to assist at a January 26 Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser in the Parish Center.  Many hands are needed!

Other Learning Events (RSVP also required): 

            *  Fall group participation in a Christian Band Concert at the Avenue (date TBA)

            *  Fall field trip to a synagogue or an  orthodox church (date TBA)

            *  Martin Luther King Day speeches in downtown Troy, Monday, January 21, 2008

            *  Dayton Urban Way of the Cross, Good Friday, March 21, 2008

            *  Memorial Day speeches, Monday, May 26, Riverside Cemetery in Troy  

KING’S ISLAND THANK YOU TRIP (June, 2008 Cost:  only $15 plus food money).
Grade 10-12  youth who earn a fall and spring NCLS award in one year are invited to this fun day.
